Ethiopia and China have taken steps toward strengthening bilateral cooperation, with Ethiopia’s Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed Ali meeting with China’s Foreign Minister Wang Yi this week. Both sides emphasized expanding cooperation in infrastructure, green industry and the digital economy.

During the meeting in Addis Ababa, Prime Minister Abiy highlighted the country’s commitment to maintaining close high-level exchanges and deepening practical cooperation across key sectors.

Meanwhile, Foreign Minister Yi stressed advancing high-quality Belt and Road projects in Africa, aligning development strategies, and providing a favorable environment for Chinese investment.

Both leaders agreed to strengthen cooperation in traditional areas, including trade, transportation and energy, as well as emerging sectors such as e-commerce, AI and green energy.

Foreign Minister Wang Yi is undertaking a six-day tour of Africa, with stops in Somalia, Tanzania and Lesotho, aimed at promoting regional development and China-Africa partnerships.
