KENYA – Farmer’s Choice has obtained the Food Safety System Certification (FSSC) 22000 Version 6, awarded by Bureau Veritas during a handover ceremony in Kenya.

The certificate was received by CEO Felisters Gitau Mutugu, with the event attended by Kabbis Cyprian, Country Chair for Bureau Veritas Group in Kenya, Tanzania, and Rwanda.

FSSC 22000 Version 6 is aligned with ISO standards and recognised by the Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI), providing a structured framework for managing food safety across the supply chain.

The certification covers all stages from sourcing raw materials to production, packaging, and distribution, ensuring Farmer’s Choice products meet global safety requirements.

The company recently launched the “Moments Made to Last” Cookout Series in supermarkets and community spaces to showcase Kenyan food culture through cooking demonstrations and tasting sessions.

The nationwide activation coincides with nearly five decades of Farmer’s Choice operations supplying affordable meat while promoting sustainable practices in livestock production.

During the launch, Mutugu stated the initiative aims to make nutritious meat products widely accessible to households while maintaining affordability and quality.

The Cookout Series provides attendees with cooking tips, festive meal ideas, and opportunities to sample meals prepared with Farmer’s Choice products.

Farmer’s Choice collaborates with local farmers by providing improved pig genetics, subsidised feed, and advisory services intended to enhance production and increase incomes.

The company uses a grading system for livestock that evaluates weight, back fat, and bone-to-meat ratio, allowing farmers to earn over US$1,250 per cow.

Distribution networks extend across all 47 counties in Kenya, with Farmer’s Choice products available in supermarkets, hotels, and retail outlets nationwide.

This certification and ongoing initiatives reflect the company’s systematic approach to food safety and efforts to integrate community engagement and sustainable livestock practices into its operations.
