A 19-year-old boy was fatally shot in Valhalla Park while sitting with his brothers outside a shop on Tuesday evening, leaving the community in shock.

In a shocking act of betrayal, it is alleged that  Lincoln Schuller, 19, was shot dead by a former friend of his.

According to the Cape Argus’ sister Daily Voice’s source, the former friend, who shot Schuller in Angela Street, is an alleged Rude Boys gang member.

The insider explained: “He [Schuller] was sitting on the corner at the shop, then the two young guys came by and they went into the store.

“Two of Lincoln’s broetjies (brothers) were sitting with him, then they came out of the store and they pressed the gun to his shoulder.

“The two brothers asked them, ‘What’s going on, leave him alone, he’s my brother’ and that’s when they started shooting him.

“He didn’t do anything to them, he was just on his own buzz. Helping people every day and cleaning up the yards, he was just like that. He was never a gangster, but he was shot by these Rude Boys guys.”

“The one who shot him was his own friend who betrayed him. ”(voor hy gedraai het.)

Schuller was known in the area as a friendly and jovial young man, who helped people in the community cleaning their yards.

Police spokesperson Sergeant Wesley Twigg said: “Bishop Lavis police responded to a complaint of a shooting on Tuesday evening, January 13, at about 6.55pm, in Angela Street, Valhalla Park, and upon arrival on the scene they found a 19-year-old male who sustained gunshot wounds to his body.

“The victim was declared deceased on the scene by medical personnel. The circumstances surrounding the incident are under investigation and arrests are yet to be made.”

He added that Bishop Lavis detectives are investigating a murder case.

Bishop Lavis Community Policing Forum (CPF) Chairperson Amanda Davids said: “The Bishop Lavis CPF strongly condemns the ongoing killings in Valhalla Park.

“Our young men are dying on the streets on a daily basis.

“We ask that SAPS stabilise the area as soon as possible. We ask the community of Valhalla Park to come forward with any information.

“This is our own children shooting and murdering each other. The only way to put a stop to this is if we come together as a community and say enough. We cannot normalise burying our youth any longer.”
