Rabat – Tanzania has increased motivation for the Taifa Stars ahead of their Round of 16 game against Morocco as part of AFCON 2025. 

Daily News reported that President Samia Suluhu Hassan promised the team an even bigger reward if the squad reaches the quarter-finals.

The news outlet said that the Tanzania players had already received around $201,822  for qualifying for the Round of 16. 

“The reward was announced by Prime Minister Mwigulu Nchemba during a phone call with the players and the technical bench, when they were visited by the Deputy Minister for Information, Culture, Arts, and Sports, Paul Makonda,” the news outlet said.

The president promised a bigger reward if the Taifa stars secure a win over Morocco to qualify for the quarterfinals.

Tanzania will face host Morocco today at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Rabat. The game will kick off at 5 p.m. Moroccan time.

Historically, Morocco dominated matches against Tanzania. In all competitions, the two teams met eight times, with Morocco winning seven of the meetings.

Tanzania’s last victory against the Atlas Lions was in a 2014 World Cup qualifier.

Today’s thrilling fixtures also include South Africa vs Cameroon, which will take place at  the Agdal Medina Stadium in Rabat at 8 p.m.

More Round of 16 games are coming next week, with Benin vs Egypt playing tomorrow at 5 p.m. and Nigeria vs Mozambique at 8 p.m.

Algeria vs Congo will play against each other on Tuesday at 5 p.m., followed by Cote d’Ivoire and Burkina Faso at 8 p.m.

Mali and Senegal already sealed their spot in the quarterfinals, where the two teams will meet on Friday next week at 5 p.m.

Today’s game will determine which team joins them, in what is expected to be a thrilling face off for the Atlas Lions and Taifa Stars.
