United Opposition leaders have vowed to remain united and rally behind whoever will be picked to challenge President William Ruto for the top seat.

Speaking during the Democratic Party’s National Delegates Congress at Ufungamano House in Nairobi, the leaders said they will remain together because the welfare of the country is bigger than any individual ambition.

During the NDC, former National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi was confirmed party leader and DP’s presidential candidate.

Other leaders present included former Deputy President and DCP leader Rigathi Gachagua, former Interior CS and Jubilee presidential candidate Fred Matiang’i, PLP leader Martha Karua, DAP-K leader Eugene Wamalwa and Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka.

Muturi claimed there are attempts to weaken the unity of the United Opposition by some of the Kenya Kwanza leaders.

“They were even looking for a person to compete with me in DP in the NDC so that I do not become the flagbearer,” he said.

“Let me make this clear: whoever is bought by detractors to sow disunity amongst us is the enemy of the people.”

Muturi added that there is still hope to put the country on the right path, stating that the country is not yet broken beyond repair.

“Unites opposition stands firm,” the Muturi declared.

Karua said the resolve to eject the Kenya Kwanza administration keeps opposition leaders united.

“We have one purpose: to bring good leadership. We have to unite to liberate Kenya,” she said.

Kalonzo also assured Kenyans that they will remain united, saying it is the only way to defeat President William Ruto.

Matiangi said anyone betting that the opposition will fall apart will lose.

Gachagua said they will work together and give Kenyans a candidate who will make Ruto a one-term president.

“Do not be worried. The Kenyan population will make Ruto a one-term president,” he told the delegates.

On Monday, however, Ruto declared that the UDA-Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) coalition will secure him victory in the 2027 General Election by a margin of between two and three million votes.

Speaking during the UDA National Governing Council meeting, the President expressed confidence that his political alliance had the strength, strategy, and national appeal needed to deliver a decisive win at the 2027 general polls.

Ruto told party leaders that the Kenya Kwanza administration had learned key lessons from the 2022 election, which he won by a slim margin of about 200,000 votes, stressing that future leadership required a broader public endorsement to ensure continued implementation of the transformation agenda.

The President strongly defended the growing cooperation between UDA and ODM, describing it as a necessary step toward uniting the country and ending the culture of exclusion that has historically followed elections.

According to Ruto, the UDA-ODM partnership is central to driving the transformation agenda that the Kenya Kwanza government has consistently promoted since taking office.
