CURRO Hillcrest has expressed its pride for the outstanding performance of the matric class of 2025 which helped it achieve first place among the top performing schools within the group.
Curro Hillcrest was tied at first place with KZN-based Grantleigh and received the Top Performer Award at the group’s annual awards ceremony on Saturday, January 24 at Emperor’s Palace in Gauteng.
All 189 Curro schools in South Africa attended the event, including schools from Namibia.
The ceremony was to celebrate the class of 2025 and all pupils who achieved an A aggregate, as well as school awards. Pupils and their parents were invited to attend.
Curro Hillcrest received an award for Excellence in Academics and were also announced as having been in the joint first place as the Top Performer Award amongst the Independent Board Examinations Schools (IEB). Grantleigh was in the joint first position.

The criteria for this award was based on the following:
100% pass rate,
The school’s pass percentage average,
The percentage of bachelor’s degree passes (University Exemption),
The percentage of pupils who achieved an A average,
The percentage of pupils who achieved distinctions,
The percentage of pupils in the top 1% of subjects in IEB.
Curro Hillcrest executive head Paul Guthrie said: “We are extremely proud of these pupils who achieved outstanding results and it was most gratifying to be awarded the joint top performer in the Curro Schools group.”

Guthrie paid tribute to the staff who guided and supported pupils who have been the catalyst to their success.
“Curro Hillcrest strives to allow pupils to be the best versions of themselves in an environment where they feel safe, happy and have a sense of belonging in order to maximise their potential.
“It is a great honour to have received this award and we are very proud of our pupils, their parents, and it is a wonderful accolade for our community.”
He wished the current matric group all the best and expressed confidence that they will continue the legacy of excellence at Curro Hillcrest, where the motto is “Designed for Greatness”!
