David Miller, South Africa’s star batter, has received medical clearance to join the national squad for the T20 World Cup starting next week.

Miller, who suffered a muscle strain during the SA20 tournament, will leave with the South African squad for Mumbai on Sunday, according to Cricket South Africa.

“Proteas Men’s batter David Miller has been medically cleared for next month’s ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 in India and Sri Lanka,” CSA said in a social media post.

“Miller successfully underwent a fitness test this week following an adductor muscle strain sustained while playing for Paarl Royals during the SA20.”

“He will join the squad on Sunday when they depart for Mumbai from OR Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg,” CSA added.

South Africa, last edition’s runner-up, are placed in Group D alongside New Zealand, Afghanistan, Canada, and the United Arab Emirates.

South Africa will play a warm-up match against India at Navi Mumbai’s DY Patil Stadium on February 4 before facing Canada in their tournament opener in Ahmedabad on February 9. South Africa’s first two games are also in Ahmedabad against Afghanistan and New Zealand at the same venue. South Africa’s final group game is in Delhi, where they will take on the United Arab Emirates.

South Africa recently included Ryan Rickelton and Tristan Stubbs in their squad after Tony de Zorzi and Donovan Ferreira were sidelined due to a hamstring injury and a shoulder fracture, respectively. Fast bowler Lungi Ngidi is also dealing with a leg injury sustained during the SA20, but he is expected to recover in time for the T20 World Cup.
