Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has made a key appointment to the National Authority for the Campaign Against Alcohol and Drug Abuse (NACADA) as the government continues to reconstitute boards and advisory bodies across the public sector.
In a Gazette notice dated January 30, 2026, Murkomen appointed Benjamin Kuttoh as a member of the NACADA Board for a period of three years, with effect from January 30, 2026.
The appointment was made under Section 6(1)(h) of the NACADA Act. NACADA plays a central role in coordinating national efforts to curb alcohol and substance abuse.
In the defence sector, Cabinet Secretary Soipan Tuya, acting through the Defence Council, appointed a team of retired military officers to the Advisory Committee on Military Veterans under the Military Veterans Act (Cap. 199A).
Those appointed under paragraph 2(b) are Brig. (Rtd.) Isaac Muchendu and Brig. (Rtd.) Hosea Oduor, while appointees under paragraph 2(c) include Lt. Col. (Rtd.) Esther Njombo, Capt. (Rtd.) Nelson Oditypo, WO I (Rtd.) Ashford Miriti Ndubi, WO I (Rtd.) Joseph Muindi, WO II (Rtd.) Rebecca Cheserem, and Sgt. (Rtd.) Rehema Said.
Their one-year term takes effect from April 2, 2026.
At the National Treasury, Cabinet Secretary John Mbadi re-appointed Anne Rimbaine Lengerded and Joseph Kipkemboi Ngetich to the Board of the Kenya Deposit Insurance Corporation for a further three years starting January 30, 2026.
Mbadi also re-appointed James Akali to the Board of Directors of the Nairobi International Financial Centre Authority for a similar three-year term.
Meanwhile, Cabinet Secretary for Co-operatives and MSME Development Wycliffe Oparanya appointed George Gathogo to the Board of the Financial Inclusion Fund for a three-year term effective January 30, 2026.
The fund is key to expanding access to affordable credit for small and micro enterprises.
The education sector saw multiple changes, with Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba announcing appointments and revocations across universities and tertiary institutions.
Prof. Kenneth Maena was appointed to the Council of Tom Mboya University, while the appointment of Allan Mugambi Michael to the Council of Murang’a University of Technology was revoked.
Ogamba also revoked the appointment of Joseph Tuikong from the Council of the Open University of Kenya, but subsequently appointed him to the Council of Koitaleel Samoei University College for a three-year term.
Further, the appointments of Stella Oyiego and Hamadi Musa Garashi to the Council of Machakos University were revoked, as Ronald Musengi, Jacob Gitau, and Joseph Nyotumba were appointed to the Council of Eldoret National Polytechnic.
In the health sector, Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale appointed Patrisio Njeru to the Board of Directors of the Kenya National Public Health Institute for a three-year term effective January 30, 2026.
The latest appointments reflect ongoing efforts by the government to strengthen governance, enhance institutional capacity, and align leadership with national development priorities.
