{"id":10211,"date":"2026-01-07T23:33:08","date_gmt":"2026-01-07T23:33:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/africa\/10211\/"},"modified":"2026-01-07T23:33:08","modified_gmt":"2026-01-07T23:33:08","slug":"slain-bronx-security-guard-had-just-returned-from-vacation-in-ghana","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/africa\/10211\/","title":{"rendered":"Slain Bronx security guard had just returned from vacation in Ghana"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nydailynews.com\/2026\/01\/06\/unprovoked-bronx-stabbing-murder-george-ennin-suspect\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">security guard randomly stabbed to death<\/a> just blocks from his Bronx home was on his way to work after a monthlong, much-needed vacation to visit relatives in Ghana, his outraged family said Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>Anyone with anything to say about murder victim George Ennin homed in on the same two traits, that Ennin, 53, was devoted to his two teenage daughters and that he was as hardworking as they come.<\/p>\n<p>Relatives said the timing of the<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nydailynews.com\/2026\/01\/05\/man-dies-after-vicious-stabbing-attack-in-the-bronx\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"> broad-daylight attack<\/a> made Ennin\u2019s death that much more difficult to deal with, knowing that his reward for long-overdue time off was being savagely knifed to death on his first day back at work.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"lazyautosizes lazyload\" alt=\"George Ennin. (Courtesy of family)<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe went away for a month on vacation,\u201d Ennin\u2019s grieving sister Rita Adusei said. \u201cHe went to see family in Ghana. We all travel there most of the time. He just came back from Ghana on Saturday.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Adusei said her brother barely had time to unwind and unpack from his overseas trip before he was viciously attacked.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe didn\u2019t deserve that,\u201d Adusei said about the caught-on-camera killing. \u201cWe want justice and we won\u2019t give up. He was working so hard for his kids, he was very hardworking,\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Ennin\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/pix11.com\/news\/local-news\/bronx\/nypd-captures-suspect-after-single-father-killed-walking-in-the-bronx\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">accused killer, Sean Jones, 38, was charged with murder, manslaughter and criminal possession of a weapon<\/a> after his arrest a day later just hours after police released surveillance images of the suspect and requested the public\u2019s help tracking him down.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"lazyautosizes lazyload\" alt=\"Police released surveillance images of a man they said stabbed a 53-year-old man in the Bronx. (NYPD)<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/bronx.news12.com\/man-fatally-stabbed-near-flynn-playground-in-melrose\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Surveillance video captured Ennin\u2019s attacker<\/a> tripping the security guard in front of a Melrose pizza shop Monday afternoon before plunging a knife into Ennin as he lay on the ground.<\/p>\n<p>Medics rushed Ennin, who was about three blocks from home when he was attacked, to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nychealthandhospitals.org\/locations\/lincoln\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Lincoln Hospital,<\/a> where he died a short time later.<\/p>\n<p>A police spokeswoman said Jones had been arrested roughly 20 times between 2013 and 2019 on charges including criminal possession of a weapon and criminal trespass.<\/p>\n<p>In 2020, Jones pleaded guilty to robbery, assault, grand larceny and harassment charges for viciously attacking and robbing two women in the Bronx.<\/p>\n<p>On March 10, 2019, around 9:40 a.m. Jones repeatedly slugged a woman in the face at Trinity Ave. and E. 166 St. in the Bronx, then barked, \u201cGive me your f\u2014ing money!\u201d before stomping on her head and making off with her EBT card, according to the criminal complaint.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" lazyautosizes lazyload\" alt=\"George Ennin (Courtesy of family)\" width=\"828\" data- src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/africa\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/IMG-20260107-WA0001.jpg\" data-attachment-id=\"8658819\" \/>George Ennin (Courtesy of family)<\/p>\n<p>Two days later Jones attacked a second woman at Boston Rd. and Home St. in the Bronx around 2 a.m. in a similar fashion. He punched her in the head, demanded she give him \u201ceverything in your pockets,\u201d then beat and kicked her, breaking several of her ribs, her wrist and an orbital bone, before taking off with her cell phone and $13 in cash, police said.<\/p>\n<p>A Bronx judge sentenced Jones to four months probation as a violent felony offender for the attacks, according to law enforcement sources.<\/p>\n<p>Jones was undergoing a psychiatric evaluation and his arraignment was still pending Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>Adusei said she could not understand why Jones wasn\u2019t already in jail.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" lazyautosizes lazyload\" alt=\"George Ennin (Courtesy of family)\" width=\"803\" data- src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/africa\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/IMG-20260107-WA0000.jpg\" data-attachment-id=\"8658821\" \/>George Ennin (Courtesy of family)<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe read about that man on the news,\u201d she said. \u201cNew York\u2019s court system knows that he\u2019s a criminal. Why did they allow him to be on the streets? I would tell my brother\u2019s soul, \u2018George, do not sleep until justice is served.&#8217;\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Adusei said she talked with her brother, who was the oldest of five, with four sisters, the day before he was killed.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe spoke for about 20 minutes on Sunday after he came back from Africa,\u201d she said. \u201cHe was just telling me that he\u2019s back safely. Right now, my mother is at home. When you call her, she\u2019s crying, and she\u2019s back in Africa. She\u2019s on retirement. She\u2019s old, she\u2019s 75.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Adusei said the family had reservations about the Bronx neighborhood.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen his older daughter completed senior high school, we didn\u2019t want her to stay in the Bronx because the Bronx is crazy,\u201d she said. \u201cSo she was sent to Maryland to live with my sister because she lives in a secure, gated community.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Now the family has to take care of both daughters, she said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are going to take care of the girls,\u201d she said. \u201cWho else?
