{"id":10258,"date":"2026-01-08T00:11:09","date_gmt":"2026-01-08T00:11:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/africa\/10258\/"},"modified":"2026-01-08T00:11:09","modified_gmt":"2026-01-08T00:11:09","slug":"mk-party-eff-clash-over-calling-judges-to-parlys-committee-probing-police-graft","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/africa\/10258\/","title":{"rendered":"MK Party, EFF clash over calling judges to Parly\u2019s committee probing police graft"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) Party and the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) clashed on Wednesday over whether members of the judiciary should appear before Parliament\u2019s ad hoc committee probing police corruption.<\/p>\n<p><a rel=\"noopener nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ewn.co.za\/2026\/01\/07\/parliament-s-committee-probing-police-graft-plans-to-call-6-more-witnesses\" target=\"_blank\">The committee plans to call at least six more witnesses<\/a> and to receive public submissions from 15 individuals and five civil society organisations before the end of January.<\/p>\n<p>The EFF said it also wants parliamentarians, the Democratic Alliace (DA)\u2019s Dianne Kohler-Barnard and the National Coloured Congress (NCC)\u2019s Fadiel Adams, to respond to testimony given by witnesses regarding their alleged handling of Crime Intelligence information.<\/p>\n<p>MK Party member David Skosana said Parliament\u2019s ad hoc committee should not only probe allegations made against the police, but also consider a list of judges\u2019 names that the party said it has submitted to the committee, which have not been made public.<\/p>\n<p>The committee has already heard from members of the judiciary, including outgoing National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) head Shamila Batohi and Investigating Directorate Against Corruption (IDAC) head Andrea Johnson.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe need to have them here. It\u2019s not only about the police. We have judgments which leave much to be desired. They are not a law unto themselves,\u201d said Skhosana.<\/p>\n<p>However, EFF leader Julius Malema said that while he remains critical of the judiciary, there is no substantial evidence implicating any judge in police corruption.<\/p>\n<p>He then challenged Skosana to indicate who should be called, causing the meeting to turn rowdy.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cStop being a coward.
