Let truth guide our words, peace inspire our actions, and hope illuminate our future,\u201d the prayer reads in part.<\/p>\n<p>They pray that God\u2019s wisdom guides voters to elect \u201cleaders who are truly patriotic, with courage to uphold truth and justice, and patience to listen to one another with respect.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMay what we do aim at promoting justice and peace in Uganda,\u201d the UEC members say in their prayer for the January 15 general election, which has attracted eight presidential candidates, including the incumbent <a href=\"https:\/\/statehouse.go.ug\/the-state-house\/president\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Yoweri Kaguta Museveni<\/a> of the National Resistance Movement (NRM), who has been in office since 1986.<\/p>\n<p>Also in the presidential race is the National Unity Party\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/nupuganda.org\/president-biography\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/fdc.ug\/team\/hon-nandala-nathan-mafabi\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Nandala Mafabi<\/a> of the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC), and Kasibante Robert of the National Peasants Party (NPP).<\/p>\n<p>The other presidential hopefuls are <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/generalmugishamuntu\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Mugisha Muntu<\/a> of the Alliance for National Transformation (ANT), Frank Burila Kabinga of the Revolutionary People\u2019s Party (RPP), Common Man\u2019s Party\u2019s Munyagwa Mubarak Sserunga, and Elton Joseph Mabirizi of the Conservative Party (CP).<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, the Archbishop of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.catholic-hierarchy.org\/diocese\/dkamp.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Catholic Archdiocese of Kampala<\/a> has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aciafrica.org\/news\/19477\/catholic-archbishop-calls-for-peace-and-hope-ahead-of-ugandas-2026-elections\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">called for hope and peace<\/a> ahead of the general election, citing what he describes as prevailing \u201cfear and anxiety fuelled by divisive narratives in the media.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe pray for our nation that it may remain peaceful, especially during times of elections.
