{"id":10468,"date":"2026-01-08T03:16:16","date_gmt":"2026-01-08T03:16:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/africa\/10468\/"},"modified":"2026-01-08T03:16:16","modified_gmt":"2026-01-08T03:16:16","slug":"what-you-need-to-know-about-mainstreaming-the-general-history-of","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/africa\/10468\/","title":{"rendered":"What you need to know about mainstreaming the General History of"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>What is UNESCO doing to support the mainstreaming of the GHA into education?<\/p>\n<p>UNESCO provides\u00a0specific tailored support to countries at the regional and national levels\u00a0to help them with the mainstreaming of the General History of Africa into\u00a0local\u00a0education systems.<\/p>\n<p>UNESCO\u00a0has been\u00a0supporting education stakeholders in\u00a0Africa, and in Latin America and the Caribbean, through a series of\u00a0capacity-strengthening workshops.\u00a0These workshops help countries identify key entry points to integrate the GHA into their policies, curricula, subject syllabuses and in other education dimensions, guided by a decolonial vision of education.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>UNESCO, with the support of the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ibe.unesco.org\/en\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">International Bureau for Education (IBE)<\/a>,\u00a0gathered\u00a0education\u00a0policy-makers, curriculum developers and specialists, pedagogical\u00a0advisers\u00a0and teacher trainers\u00a0with the aim to\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>assess the current state of history teaching and learning in basic and secondary education in their respective countries;and, more specifically, assess the role of and approach to the study of African history and culture in their national curricula, and the extent of the GHA\u2019s integration therein.<\/p>\n<p>Country specialists\u00a0were able to explore ways\u00a0to contextualize the education materials to\u00a0their\u00a0specific regional and national needs and\u00a0priorities.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The main outcomes of these workshops were the elaboration of national GHA action plans and the creation of a collaborative network of\u00a0stakeholders, through which they can share experiences and best practices.\u00a0 <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"What is UNESCO doing to support the mainstreaming of the GHA into education?
