Hudeifi Muhamed Mire, 24, was arraigned Tuesday, Jan. 6, in the U.S. District Court of New York on charges of unlawful flight to avoid prosecution. Mire will be arraigned in Minnesota on federal charges of conspiracy to distribute fentanyl resulting in death, distribution of fentanyl resulting in death, and possession with intent to distribute fentanyl at a later date, according to a news release from the <\/p>\n

According to the sheriff\u2019s office, investigators with the <\/p>\n

Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension<\/a><\/p>\n

, the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the U.S. Marshals Service assisted the CEE-VI Drug and Gang Task Force and sheriff\u2019s office in the ongoing search for Mire.<\/p>\n

Mire was charged in 2022 following an investigation into the <\/p>\n

overdose death<\/a><\/p>\n

of Samantha Myers, 19, at a residence outside of <\/p>\n

New London<\/a><\/p>\n

. An autopsy found she had died of the effects of fentanyl, according to Minnesota court records. Mire was charged in Kandiyohi County District Court with second-degree manslaughter, third-degree murder, second-degree drug possession and two counts of first-degree drug sale.<\/p>\n

According to the sheriff\u2019s office, Mire fled Minnesota and the United States after posting bail. Court records show he had posted $300,000 bail for release with conditions that included not leaving Minnesota without written court approval.<\/p>\n

Investigators ultimately located Mire in Kajiado, Kenya, on Oct. 31, 2025, according to the news release. Mire was extradited to the U.S. with assistance from the Kenyan National Police and other agencies.<\/p>\n

In its news release, the Kandiyohi County Sheriff\u2019s Office noted the contributions of the Kandiyohi County Attorney\u2019s Office and the United States Attorney\u2019s Office in addition to the other law enforcement agencies for their \u201cdiligent efforts to continue to work to bring Mire back to the United States to face justice.\u201d<\/p>\n

The criminal case filed in Kandiyohi County was listed as dormant on Wednesday, according to Minnesota Court Records Online.<\/p>\n
