{"id":10997,"date":"2026-01-08T10:32:15","date_gmt":"2026-01-08T10:32:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/africa\/10997\/"},"modified":"2026-01-08T10:32:15","modified_gmt":"2026-01-08T10:32:15","slug":"malawians-and-chinese-bust-for-illegal-gin-distillery-in-cape-town","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/africa\/10997\/","title":{"rendered":"Malawians and Chinese bust for illegal gin distillery in Cape Town"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>FIVE Malawians and a Chinese national were set to appear in court today after being bust at a illegal liquor plant in Durbanville.<\/p>\n<p>The six were gevang on Monday after Metro Police Neighbourhood Safety Officers (NSOs) at the Chinese national&#8217;s home after tip-off.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Safety and Security teams confiscated over 2 000 litres of homemade gin during the raid, following a tip-off from the community to the Public Emergency Call Centre (PECC) about suspicious activity around the property.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The NSO officers responded and, on their arrival, were granted permission to enter the property. Once inside, they discovered 11 large drums filled with the gin as well as a machine seemingly being used to distil the alcohol,&#8221; the City said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;They also discovered that the suspects had been gathering bottles of two popular alcohol brands and were packaging the homemade liquor seemingly to be sold under these brand names.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Three males and two females, aged between 18 and 39, were arrested on charges including illegal manufacturing of alcohol, contravening the Counterfeit Goods Act, and possession of presumed stolen property.<\/p>\n<p>The confiscated liquor will now be sent for forensic analysis.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCounterfeit alcohol is extremely dangerous and often contain toxic substances which can lead to severe health issues and even death.
