The former Ghana Minister for Finance, Mr Ken Ofori-Atta, has been detained in the United States by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) regarding the status of his current stay.<\/p>\n
His legal team in the US is in contact with ICE and expects the matter to be resolved expeditiously.<\/p>\n
Mr Ofori-Atta has a pending petition for adjustment of status, which allows a person to remain in the United States legally beyond the validity of their visa. Under US law, a change of status by this method is common.<\/p>\n

His lawyers, Minkah-Premo, Osei-Bonsu, Bruce Cathline & Partners, stated, \u201cMr Ofori-Atta is cooperating fully with the authorities and has a pending petition for status.\u201d<\/p>\n

They added that the matter is being handled in accordance with standard procedures and that they \u201cexpect the matter to be resolved expeditiously.\u201d<\/p>\n
The public has been advised that Mr Ofori-Atta, as a law-abiding person, is \u201cfully cooperating with ICE to have this issue resolved.\u201d<\/p>\n
ICE officials did not provide further comment, and no criminal allegations have been made in connection with the detention.<\/p>\n
Mr Ofori-Atta, who served as Ghana\u2019s Finance Minister, has a pending legal petition and is awaiting resolution of his immigration status.<\/p>\n
