The KwaZulu-Natal government has officially endorsed Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi to return as the province\u2019s police commissioner.<\/p>\n
This follows a meeting with National Police Commissioner Fannie Masemola last week.<\/p>\n
Mkhwanazi, who has been at the helm for about five years, has been lauded for his no-nonsense approach to crime.<\/p>\n
His term as KwaZulu-Natal\u2019s top cop is expected to come to an end after March this year.<\/p>\n
Last year, Mkhwanazi blew the lid on widespread alleged corruption and political interference within the South African Police Service and the country\u2019s criminal justice system during an explosive media briefing in July.<\/p>\n
His allegations sent shockwaves across the country and led to the establishment of the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry, as well as a separate parliamentary ad hoc committee to investigate the claims.<\/p>\n
KwaZulu-Natal Premier Thami Ntuli said he fully supports Mkhwanazi\u2019s return.<\/p>\n
\u201cWell, it will be up to him whether he accepts or not, but from my side, on behalf of the people of KwaZulu-Natal, we are happy with the work that he is doing and with the work the police are doing.
