\u201cNamibia reaffirms its commitment to ensuring a safe and secure environment in general including for travellers and visitors,\u201d tourism ministry executive director Sikongo Haihambo and home affairs ministry executive director Nghidinua Daniel say in a joint statement released on Thursday.<\/p>\n
The statement follows recent travel advisories issued by Canada and Germany, which were reported by the media platform Travel and Tour World.<\/p>\n
Canada\u2019s travel website advises its citizens to \u201cexercise a high degree of caution in Namibia due to the high level of crime\u201d, citing petty theft and fraud as common risks, particularly in tourist hotspots.<\/p>\n
The German foreign office also cites robbery targeting tourist sites as a concern.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhile it is acknowledged that every country has some form of risk, Namibia is and remains one of the most peaceful and politically stable locations in the world,\u201d the statement reads.<\/p>\n
The government says it has established a dedicated tourist protection unit, highlighting the importance of the tourism sector to Namibia.<\/p>\n
While reiterating that visitor safety is a priority, the government also encourages tourists to take basic precautions and follow official guidance.<\/p>\n
