The Boulders Beach penguin colony in Simon’s Town is a popular destination for visitors and locals alike, but during peak seasons traffic in the area can become a major nightmare due to limited parking spaces available.<\/p>\n
Spokesperson for City of Cape Town Traffic Services, Kevin Jacobs, says a balanced view is needed.<\/p>\n
“The tourists don’t know the local conditions, the locals want to access the beach, and there is a lot of frustration generally in the area.<\/p>\n
“Lots of tickets have been issued \u2013 space is limited… we’ll certainly pass that on to Mobility to see how we can improve the space that is currently available…\u00a0there is room for improvement.”<\/p>\n
Jacobs says there’s also a signage issue, for which the City of Cape Town (CoCT) will take responsibility.<\/p>\n
“From our side we’ll try and manage it as best as we can, and try our best to minimise the congestion in the area.”<\/p>\n
