The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) has
\nannounced that the Instant Fines Traffic Management System is now live, marking
\na significant shift in how traffic violations are enforced.<\/p>\n
In a notice issued Monday, the authority said the system
\nwill automatically issue traffic violation notifications via SMS to motorists
\nfound to have breached road regulations.<\/p>\n
The notifications will inform offenders of the nature of the
\noffence and the fine payable.<\/p>\n
NTSA said the new system is designed to improve
\ntransparency and efficiency in traffic enforcement by eliminating manual
\nprocesses.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe system will automatically issue traffic violation
\nnotifications via SMS to motorists where applicable,\u201d it said.<\/p>\n
According to the authority, the process is fully automated
\nand operates without human intervention, ensuring greater transparency,
\nefficiency and accountability in traffic enforcement.<\/p>\n
Motorists who receive the notifications will be required to
\nsettle the fines within seven days.<\/p>\n
\u201cAll fines issued through the system can be paid through the
\nbranch network of KCB Group within 7 days,\u201d the authority said.<\/p>\n
NTSA further warned that failure to settle the fine within
\nthe stipulated period will attract additional penalties.<\/p>\n
\u201cFailure to settle the fine due within the seven-day period
\nwill result in the amount due earning interest. In addition, the vehicle or the
\ndriver with pending fine will not be able to transact on NTSA service platforms
\nuntil the fine is settled,\u201d the notice said.<\/p>\n
The authority urged motorists to comply with traffic
\nregulations and respond promptly to official communication regarding any
\noffences recorded under the new digital system.<\/p>\n
\u201cMotorists are advised to observe all traffic regulations
\nand respond promptly to any official notifications received,\u201d it said.<\/p>\n
Further details about the system and its implementation will
\nbe communicated through official government channels.<\/p>\n
Under the new system, motorists committing traffic offences
\nwill receive instant notifications on their mobile phones, enabling authorities
\nto enforce traffic laws more swiftly and efficiently.<\/p>\n
The rollout follows a directive issued by William Ruto on
\nMarch 2 instructing the Ministry of Roads and Transport and NTSA to implement
\nthe instant fines programme within one month.
<\/p>\n
The directive also included the installation of road
\nsurveillance cameras in major urban centres to help monitor traffic violations.<\/p>\n
Ruto ordered the authority and the ministry to roll out road
\nsurveillance cameras in six major urban areas as part of renewed efforts to
\ncurb traffic offences and address rising road fatalities in the country.<\/p>\n
Speaking during a high-level road safety meeting convened
\nunder the National Council on the Administration of Justice (NCAJ) at State
\nHouse Nairobi, the President expressed frustration over delays in implementing
\nthe long-discussed instant fines and digital enforcement programme.<\/p>\n
The government hopes the new digital enforcement system will
\nhelp strengthen compliance with traffic laws and reduce accidents by ensuring
