As the countdown to the presidential and parliamentary elections draws closer, the Minister for the Presidency, Milly Babalanda, has flagged off mobilisation teams to conduct door-to-door voter outreach in support of NRM presidential flag bearer Yoweri Museveni, as well as party candidates for Parliament and local leadership positions in the Busoga region.<\/p>\n
The mobilisation drive brings together teams from the Busoga Women Leaders Association (BWERA), the Busoga Rural Development Agency (BRUDA), ghetto leaders and NRM grassroots mobilisers operating at district level.<\/p>\n
Addressing the teams during a meeting held on Wednesday (January 7) at the office of the Jinja resident district commissioner in Buwenge town council, Jinja district, Babalanda urged party members to speak with one voice by mobilising support for all NRM card holders from the top leadership to the grassroots.<\/p>\n
\u201cI came to remind you that you were voting NRM from top to bottom. My coming is to give you a backup and flag you off,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
The minister said she had held similar engagements across other districts, including Jinja City Council, to ensure that mobilisation efforts were aligned with those already underway on the ground.<\/p>\n
Babalanda also equipped the teams with what she described as the party\u2019s seven core contributions, which she said form the basis of NRM\u2019s message as it seeks to protect achievements attained since the party came to power.<\/p>\n
\u201cYou are going to be asked why they should vote for NRM, and we have seven pillars which we are emphasising,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
She cited peace and stability as a key achievement that Ugandans must guard jealously, noting that it was secured through sacrifice by those who fought in the bush war.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is one of the gains which must be protected jealously by not returning us to history. Uganda is now stable,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
Jinja resident city commissioner, who is also the whip of all commissioners in the Busoga region, Richard Gulume, echoed her remarks, saying peace and stability remain the party\u2019s strongest pillar.<\/p>\n
\u201cNo one doesn\u2019t know that issues of security and stability are our priority, we have gone ahead to help some countries like the Democratic Republic of Congo, South Sudan and Somalia,\u201d Gulume said.<\/p>\n
Babalanda also highlighted other achievements, including improvements in physical infrastructure, promotion of foreign investment, expansion of services, access to markets for goods and services, as well as wealth and job creation.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, Jinja resident district commissioner Ahmed Katerega Musaazi appealed to government to support the completion of the ongoing construction of the district headquarters in Kagoma Town Council to allow technocrats to relocate from the city to permanent offices.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are praying for the completion of our offices such that the technocrats join us and bring services nearer to the locals,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
