{"id":13649,"date":"2026-01-09T17:07:07","date_gmt":"2026-01-09T17:07:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/africa\/13649\/"},"modified":"2026-01-09T17:07:07","modified_gmt":"2026-01-09T17:07:07","slug":"dbe-official-found-to-be-behind-2025-matric-exam-papers-leak","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/africa\/13649\/","title":{"rendered":"DBE official found to be behind 2025 matric exam papers leak"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Department of Basic Education (DBE) has confirmed that a human resources official was found to be behind the National Senior Certificate (NSC) examinations leak.<\/p>\n<p>The official is alleged to have handed over the papers to her son, who shared them with others, resulting in <a rel=\"noopener nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ewn.co.za\/2026\/01\/09\/umalusi-warns-of-consequences-for-2025-matric-exam-cheats\" target=\"_blank\">40 complicit candidates<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>In a media briefing on Friday, Basic Education Minister Siviwe Gwarube confirmed that seven papers were leaked, including English home language, Maths papers 1 and 2, as well as the Physical Sciences paper.<\/p>\n<p>Gwarube said forensic investigations are still underway to determine which computer was taken from the centre where papers were drafted and kept.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The National Investigation Task Team (NITT) looked at school patterns only to spot unusual results.
