{"id":13651,"date":"2026-01-09T17:08:06","date_gmt":"2026-01-09T17:08:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/africa\/13651\/"},"modified":"2026-01-09T17:08:06","modified_gmt":"2026-01-09T17:08:06","slug":"datti-baba-ahmed-calls-for-generational-shift-in-nigeria","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/africa\/13651\/","title":{"rendered":"Datti Baba-Ahmed Calls for Generational Shift in Nigeria"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The 2023 Labour Party vice-presidential candidate, Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed, has reiterated his call for a generational shift in Nigeria\u2019s political leadership, saying the country urgently needs new leaders to address its challenges.\n<\/p>\n<p>Datti made the remarks on Friday during an appearance on Channels Television, where he reflected on his long political journey alongside former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar.\n<\/p>\n<p>According to him, Atiku had been contesting for the presidency as far back as when he was serving in the National Youth Service Corps.\n<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen I was doing my NYSC, Baba Atiku was an aspirant, and in 2018 we contested primaries together,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>He recalled that he again faced Atiku during the 2023 general election.\n<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn 2023, we contested again. I, as a vice president elsewhere, when his vice president had left him. And for God\u2019s sake, in 2027 again?\u201d Datti said.\n<\/p>\n<p>The Labour Party chieftain stressed that Nigeria needs a fresh generation of leaders, adding that many capable Nigerians are ready to serve but are discouraged by the country\u2019s political structure.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere is need for a new generation of Nigerian leaders, and they do exist.
