Nkwanta (O\/R), Jan. 09, GNA \u2013 The Nutrition Unit and Children\u2019s Ward of the Nkwanta South Municipal Hospital, in partnership with the Ambulance Service, is set to launch a major nutritional health outreach, aimed at tackling child malnutrition in the area.\u00a0<\/p>\n
The\u00a0programme, scheduled for January 17, 2026, focuses on children under five years, one of the most vulnerable groups affected by poor nutrition in rural communities.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
The outreach team has selected some communities within the Municipality, based on an assessment done on the nutritional status of the children.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Mrs\u00a0Nancy\u00a0Dogoe, the Nutrition Officer at the Nkwanta South Municipal Hospital, during a media engagement on the\u00a0programme, said the outreach aimed at offering medical support and supplying essential nutritional items to affected children.\u00a0<\/p>\n
She said activities outlined,\u00a0included\u00a0nutrition education for caregivers, the distribution of supplements, emergency food packages, as well as toiletries.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Mrs\u00a0Dogoe\u00a0stated that there would also be weight and height measurements,\u00a0weight for age\u00a0assessment, Mid- Upper Arm measurements, and general physical examinations.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
Specialist Ambulance Emergency Medical Technician (SAEMT), Derrick\u00a0Wortey\u00a0Koranteng, the Head of National Ambulance Service, Nkwanta South Municipality, said the outreach formed part of ongoing efforts to curb the rising cases of undernutrition, stunning, and wasting among children in the area.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
He called on caregivers to take advantage of the\u00a0programme\u00a0to give their children the needed nutrients they needed to grow well and also save the lives of those who might be at high risk.\u00a0<\/p>\n
The team also called the public to support the initiative by\u00a0donating in\u00a0cash or items needed for the program.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
