Mensah\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Accra, Jan.03, GNA \u2013 Stakeholders in Ghana\u2019s financial ecosystem have called for the urgent development of a\u00a02026\u20132030 Cybersecurity Transformation Plan\u00a0to\u00a0protect the country\u2019s rapidly expanding digital economy from escalating cyber threats.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Mr\u00a0Amenyo Tettey\u00a0Normanyo, a Cyber Security Analyst, said the proposed plan should provide a clear strategic vision,\u00a0modernised\u00a0regulations, measurable milestones, and a unified\u00a0defence\u00a0posture for all financial institutions.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>He said the framework should address critical areas such as governance, infrastructure, talent development, incident response, cloud security, and operational resilience.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The call comes amid concerns that Ghana\u2019s fast-growing digital financial services\u2014including banking, fintech, and mobile money platforms\u2014are\u00a0operating\u00a0without a comprehensive cybersecurity roadmap, exposing the sector to sophisticated cybercrime syndicates and potential state-sponsored attacks.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Although the Bank of Ghana has issued guidelines to strengthen cybersecurity,\u00a0Mr\u00a0Normanyo\u00a0noted that the measures fall short of a long-term transformation blueprint comparable to frameworks in Singapore, the European Union, South Africa, and Nigeria.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>He warned that without sector-wide\u00a0modernisation, Ghana risks economic\u00a0destabilisation\u00a0and loss of investor confidence\u00a0in the event of\u00a0a major cyberattack.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFinancial stability, investor credibility, and public trust depend on proactive action. Ghana cannot afford to celebrate digital transformation while neglecting the security foundations that sustain it,\u201d he said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Mr\u00a0Normanyo\u00a0noted that reported cyber incidents affecting financial institutions across West Africa increased significantly between 2019 and 2024, highlighting a growing regional threat that could\u00a0impact\u00a0Ghana\u2019s financial stability.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>As Ghana positions itself as a digital leader in West Africa, he stressed that cybersecurity was not optional but a national imperative.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe urge national leaders, regulators, and industry stakeholders to\u00a0prioritise\u00a0the development of this transformation plan to safeguard the financial sector and maintain investor confidence,\u201d he added.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>GNA\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Edited by: Audrey Dekalu\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u202f\u00a0<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"By Eunice Hilda A.
