President William Ruto has issued a three-month ultimatum to the contractor building a road linking the Mogotio-Ravine road, warning that failure to complete the project within that timeframe will lead to termination of the contract.<\/p>\n
Ruto expressed dissatisfaction at what he termed as continued suffering by the residents due to the delayed completion of the road, yet only a small stretch remains.<\/p>\n
“Hiyo barabara ya Saos imewapatia matatizo sana. Sasa leo nimepatana na huyo contractor na nimemwambia asipomaliza hiyo barabara kwa miezi mitatu afunge virago aende achome makaa…kwa sababu hiyo pia ni kazi,” he said.<\/p>\n
(I met the contractor doing that road today and told him that if that road is not finished within three months, he should pack up and leave)<\/p>\n
Ruto was addressing residents in Mogotio town during his development tour of Baringo County.<\/p>\n
He was accompanied by several elected leaders from the county, including area Governor Benjamin Cheboi, Senator Kiprono Chemitei and area MP Kiborek Reuben.<\/p>\n
The completion of the road, Ruto noted, would ease movement, enable trade between Mogotio and Ravine and foster regional economic integration.<\/p>\n
He directed the Roads and Transport Cabinet Secretary, Davis Chirchir, to supervise the contractor closely to ensure residents no longer endure delays.\u00a0<\/p>\n
“So nimemwambia huyo contractor na nimemwambia waziri asupervise ndiyo msihangaike tena,” he said.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe want people in Ravine and Mogotio to do business together and push development forward.”<\/p>\n
Earlier in Kimgorom, the President launched the tarmacking of the Sirwa-Kimgorom road, part of the wider infrastructure programme he said would significantly improve Baringo\u2019s investment profile.\u00a0<\/p>\n
He noted that more than 700 kilometres of road are being upgraded across the county to facilitate access to markets, health facilities and schools.<\/p>\n
\u201cThese investments totalling more than Sh39 billion will also allow farmers to move produce to markets more efficiently, boosting incomes,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
During the tour, the Head of State commissioned the Mogotio Modern Market, opened the Mogotio Township Secondary School, inspected the Mogotio Sports Academy and laid the foundation stone for a 528-unit affordable housing project.<\/p>\n
The President said the housing programme, valued at Sh15 billion in Baringo County, would deliver 5,000 affordable units, 10 modern markets and hostels accommodating up to 4,000 students.\u00a0<\/p>\n
He said the initiative would not only transform the county\u2019s urban infrastructure but also open up job opportunities for young people.<\/p>\n
