The crash occurred nine days after Joshua\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/anthony-joshua-defeats-jake-paul-by-knockout\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-invalid-url-rewritten-http=\"\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">beat YouTube personality Jake Paul<\/a>\u00a0in a non-title bout in Miami.<\/p>\n<p>Joshua sustained minor injuries, and the two-time heavyweight champion was released from a hospital on Wednesday after being deemed clinically fit to recuperate at home.<\/p>\n<p>      <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/africa\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/ap25363805974772.jpg#.jpeg\" alt=\"Anthony-Joshua-Nigeria Boxing \" height=\"414\" width=\"620\" class=\" lazyload\"  loading=\"lazy\"\/><\/p>\n<p>                  In this photo provided by the Federal Road Safety Corps, people gather at the accident scene of British boxer Anthony Joshua in Lagos, Nigeria, on Monday, Dec. 29, 2025.<\/p>\n<p>                Federal Road Safety Corps via AP<\/p>\n<p>British media reported on Saturday that Joshua has returned home ahead of the funerals of Ghami and Ayodele.<\/p>\n<p>Ghami was Joshua&#8217;s strength and conditioning coach while Ayodele was a trainer. Just hours before the crash, Joshua and Ayodele posted clips on social media playing table tennis together.<\/p>\n<p>The driver of the car, Adeniyi Mobolaji Kayode, was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/anthony-joshua-nigeria-crash-driver-charged-reckless-driving\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-invalid-url-rewritten-http=\"\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">charged on Friday<\/a> with dangerous and reckless driving, with the court case adjourned to Jan. 20 for trial.<\/p>\n<p>Joshua has family roots in Nigeria and he briefly attended boarding school there as a child.
