{"id":14815,"date":"2026-01-10T08:21:06","date_gmt":"2026-01-10T08:21:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/africa\/14815\/"},"modified":"2026-01-10T08:21:06","modified_gmt":"2026-01-10T08:21:06","slug":"catholic-archbishop-in-south-africa-calls-for-formation-on-synodality-ahead-of-implementation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/africa\/14815\/","title":{"rendered":"Catholic Archbishop in South Africa Calls for Formation on Synodality ahead of Implementation"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>                <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aciafrica.org\/author\/211\/sabrine-amboka\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><br \/>\n                        <img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Sabrine Amboka\" class=\"author-image m-0 mr-4\" height=\"48\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/africa\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/1768033266_57_sabrine01_1748379247.jpeg\" width=\"48\" loading=\"lazy\"\/><br \/>\n                    <\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"post-info\">Johannesburg, 09 January, 2026 \/  5:05 pm (ACI Africa).<\/p>\n<p>The Chairperson of the Commission for Synodality at the <a href=\"https:\/\/sacbc.org.za\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Southern African Catholic Bishops\u2019 Conference<\/a> (SACBC) has called on Clergy, Women and Men Religious, and lay faithful to offer support and commitment to formation on Synodality as Dioceses head to its implementation.<\/p>\n<p>In his reflection at the ongoing short course program titled \u201cLeadership in a Synodal Church\u201d at St. Vianney Seminary in South Africa, Archbishop <a href=\"https:\/\/www.catholic-hierarchy.org\/bishop\/bmpako.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Dabula Anthony Mpako<\/a> said that formation in Synodality is essential for understanding the Synod on Synodality better, especially during the implementation phase.<\/p>\n<p>Lauding the organization of the short course, the Archbishop of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.catholic-hierarchy.org\/diocese\/dpret.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Catholic Archdiocese of Pretoria<\/a> said said that with Synodality, the Church is going back to \u201cthe original way of being\u201d, a situation he said could be challenging.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAll of us, Clergy, Religious, lay people, need to be formed in synodality. Even though Synodality an old thing, we are going back to the original way of being church. It is a new thing because, for the past millennium, going back to the Middle Ages, we adopted a different model of church. It is going to be a challenge now to step outside that model and to embrace this one. So we need a very large set of support from you,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>The Archbishop of Pretoria underscored the importance of formation as dioceses prepare to put Synodality into practice, saying that leaders and the faithful must be well formed so that they can clearly understand what Synodality means for Church leadership, decision-making, and pastoral work.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Johannesburg, 09 January, 2026 \/ 5:05 pm (ACI Africa).
