The Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council (KMPDC)
\nhas shut down three illegal facilities, among them Life Clinic in Nairobi\u2019s
\nKawangware estate following an alleged botched dental operation.<\/p>\n

The crackdown followed a\u00a0story aired on Citizen TV\u00a0<\/a>of
\na patient who underwent a tooth extraction procedure at Life Clinic that has
\nsince left him with a serious medical condition<\/p>\n

The quack doctor who operated on the patient is now on the
\nrun.<\/p>\n

On Friday, KMPDC launched a crackdown on illegal clinics
\noperating in Nairobi\u2019s Kawangware estate. Their\u00a0first stop was at Life
\nClinic, where officials found the structure had been repainted and the wanted
\nowner was nowhere to be seen.<\/p>\n

Officials left a notice indicating that the facility had been
\nclosed for unlawfully engaging the services of a person who is not registered
\nand licensed as a medical practitioner.<\/p>\n

The operation then moved to another facility allegedly owned
\nby Lawrence King\u2019atwa within the same area. Both Life Clinic and Jamii Centre
\nare allegedly owned by the same person. In the company of police officers,
\nKMPDC officials forced entry into Jamii Clinic premises.<\/p>\n

Inside, they found a patient who had been left unattended and
\nin pain. The patient was rescued, and the facility shut down.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have had a crackdown and we have closed down two of his
\nfacilities. One of them was repainted, the guy has run away\u2026 this is somewhere
\nelse where he operates from,\u201d\u00a0KMPDC\u00a0Board Member\u00a0Tim Theuri
\nsaid.<\/p>\n

Citizen TV on Thursday aired a story about a suspected medical
\nnegligence at Life Clinic, where Amos Isoka underwent a dental operation that
\nhas now left him with a life-threatening condition.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe condition he suffered is called Ludwig\u2019s angina. After
\nthe tooth was removed, he got a swelling. This is a dental condition that can
\nlead to death, and that is why he was speaking with difficulty\u2026 The doctors at
\nKNH are working on him in theatre and as we speak wameanza kutoa huo
\nusaha,” said Theuri.<\/p>\n

Amos is now under special medication at Kenyatta National
\nHospital (KNH), with his family reporting positive progress. However, residents
\nhave appealed to the government to intensify the regulation of such facilities.<\/p>\n

Vivian Wanjala, the wife of the victim, added, “Amos sasa

As of Friday, three such facilities had been shut down in
\nKawangware, with KMPDC warning of a major crackdown on similar operations.<\/p>\n

Authorities have now launched a manhunt for the owner and the
\nfake dental practitioner believed to have exposed Amos to the life-threatening
