{"id":16141,"date":"2026-01-10T23:50:07","date_gmt":"2026-01-10T23:50:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/africa\/16141\/"},"modified":"2026-01-10T23:50:07","modified_gmt":"2026-01-10T23:50:07","slug":"aowin-mce-questions-mp-over-illegal-galamsey-raid","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/africa\/16141\/","title":{"rendered":"Aowin MCE questions MP over \u2018Illegal\u2019 galamsey raid"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"article-image\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ghanaweb.com\/GhanaHomePage\/NewsArchive\/Aowin-MCE-questions-MP-over-Illegal-galamsey-raid-2016702?gallery=1\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/africa\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/80984208.295.jpg\" alt=\"Stephen Morcher, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of Aowin\" title=\"Stephen Morcher, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of Aowin\" width=\"295\" height=\"203\" \/> <\/a>Stephen Morcher, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of Aowin<\/p>\n<p id=\"article-123\">Stephen Morcher, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of Aowin, has condemned a recent anti-galamsey operation carried out by a task force allegedly associated with the local MP, Oscar Ofori Larbi, saying it undermined official efforts to curb illegal mining.<\/p>\n<p>Morcher said he received an early-morning call on Monday, January 5, 2026, from an informant who initially claimed that the officials involved in the confrontation with galamsey operators were from NAIMOS.<\/p>\n<p>However, further checks revealed that the task force consisted of \u2018boys\u2019 allegedly associated with the MP, not NAIMOS personnel.<\/p>\n<p>The raid targeted galamsey sites in Afodowa, Nyamedema and surrounding areas, all within the Aowin municipality.<\/p>\n<p>According to the MCE, the Enchi Divisional Police Command was unable to respond immediately because its officers were engaged in monitoring a land dispute within the municipality\u2019s boundaries.<\/p>\n<p>He therefore instructed military personnel, guided by his driver, to reach the galamsey sites and apprehend all individuals involved.
