The club said in a statement that the incidents were unacceptable and at odds with the sport\u2019s values.<\/p>\n<p>The match on Tuesday night featured repeated Islamophobic chanting from sections of the crowd, prompting widespread anger across football. The refrain targeted anyone not jumping as being Muslim.<\/p>\n<p>Espanyol underlined their long-standing commitment to tackling discrimination. The club also stressed the identity of their ground as an inclusive, respectful venue that has regularly staged international fixtures in a calm setting.<\/p>\n<p>The Catalan side defended their supporters, calling accusations against them unjust and disproportionate.
