{"id":16881,"date":"2026-01-11T10:35:18","date_gmt":"2026-01-11T10:35:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/africa\/16881\/"},"modified":"2026-01-11T10:35:18","modified_gmt":"2026-01-11T10:35:18","slug":"33-year-old-man-kills-wife-dies-by-suicide-in-land-dispute-in-longisa-bomet","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/africa\/16881\/","title":{"rendered":"33-year-old man kills wife, dies by suicide in land dispute in Longisa, Bomet"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/africa\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/b646ab1b-9c03-4909-9344-915733ef2a30.jpg\" class=\"ui-draggable ui-draggable-handle\" style=\"max-width: 100%; width: 100%;\"\/>Crime scene\/File<\/p>\n<p>Tragedy struck a village when a man killed his&#13;<br \/>\nwife before he died by suicide in Emitiot, Longisa, Bomet County.<\/p>\n<p>According to the police, Nicodemus Rotich, 33, was&#13;<br \/>\nfound dead with his body hanging from a tree in a thicket with a rope tied around&#13;<br \/>\nhis neck.<\/p>\n<p>It later emerged that he had killed his wife in&#13;<br \/>\ntheir house before he walked about two kilometres away where he hanged himself.<\/p>\n<p>The body of his wife identified as Jedida Rotich,&#13;<br \/>\n28, was found on the bed in the house minutes later after the Friday, January 9&#13;<br \/>\nincident. <\/p>\n<p>The body had head injuries.<\/p>\n<p>Their neighbours said the couple had quarrelled over&#13;<br \/>\nthe sale of a piece of land in the area.\u00a0The bodies were moved to the mortuary pending an&#13;<br \/>\nautopsy and other procedures, police said.<\/p>\n<p>Police say suicide is among the leading causes of deaths in&#13;<br \/>\nthe country.<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\nElsewhere in Mukurweini, Nyeri County, a woman was&#13;<br \/>\nfound dead after a suspected murder.<\/p>\n<p>She was identified as Mary Wangari Wanjau. She was&#13;<br \/>\n85, locals said.\u00a0The incident happened in a house in Karia village&#13;<br \/>\nwhere she had been living alone.<\/p>\n<p>Police said the body was found lying on the floor&#13;<br \/>\nin a pool of blood inside her two-bedroom permanent house.<\/p>\n<p>Police said she had signs of a back head injury and&#13;<br \/>\nthat a blood-stained wood believed to be the murder weapon was recovered from&#13;<br \/>\nthe scene and kept as an exhibit.<\/p>\n<p>The body was moved to Mukurweini subcounty hospital&#13;<br \/>\nmortuary awaiting autopsy.<\/p>\n<p>In Muungano, Machakos County, a man\u2019s attempt to&#13;<br \/>\nsave a woman from a violent husband turned tragic when he was hit on the head&#13;<br \/>\nand died.<\/p>\n<p>A woman who was on the run from her violent&#13;<br \/>\nhusband had reportedly escaped from her house to that of the neighbour seeking&#13;<br \/>\nrefuge.<br style=\"font-variant-ligatures: normal;font-variant-caps: normal;&#13;&#10;orphans: 2;text-align:start;widows: 2;-webkit-text-stroke-width: 0px;&#13;&#10;text-decoration-thickness: initial;text-decoration-style: initial;text-decoration-color: initial;&#13;&#10;word-spacing:0px\"\/>&#13;<br \/>\nThis followed a quarrel.<\/p>\n<p>The husband followed her to the house, prompting&#13;<br \/>\nthe owner of the home to intervene.<\/p>\n<p>This angered the husband, who started a fight with&#13;<br \/>\nthe man.
