{"id":17088,"date":"2026-01-11T13:18:06","date_gmt":"2026-01-11T13:18:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/africa\/17088\/"},"modified":"2026-01-11T13:18:06","modified_gmt":"2026-01-11T13:18:06","slug":"djorkpo-abuvienu-residents-cry-for-abandoned-chps-compound-to-be-completed","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/africa\/17088\/","title":{"rendered":"Djorkpo\u00a0Abuvienu: Residents cry for abandoned CHPS Compound to be completed\u00a0\u00a0"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>By Kamal Ahmed, GNA\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Djorkpo\u00a0Abuvienu\u00a0(GA\/R), Jan. 11, GNA \u2013 Residents of\u00a0Djorkpo\u00a0Abuvienu, in the Shai-Osudoku\u00a0District of the Greater Accra Region, have appealed to the public, non-governmentorganisations\u00a0(NGOs), and philanthropists for the completion of an uncompleted Community-based Health Planning and Services (CHPS) Compound.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The health facility, a self-help project\u00a0initiated\u00a0through communal\u00a0labour, was started by the community in response to persistent challenges in accessing basic healthcare services.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>However, the project is at a standstill due to lack of funds and building materials.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Djorkpo\u00a0Abuvienu\u00a0is a farming community in the\u00a0Tokpo\u00a0Electoral Area.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Speaking to the Ghana News Agency in an interview, the residents said the absence of a nearby health facility exposed them to serious health risks, particularly on the part of pregnant women,\u00a0children\u00a0and the elderly.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Madam Sena Akakpo, a resident, described the situation as dangerous, saying, \u201cmany residents are compelled to travel long distances to the\u00a0Battor\u00a0Catholic Hospital in the North\u00a0Tongu\u00a0District for medical care and childbirth.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen a woman goes into\u00a0labour\u00a0at night, the only\u00a0option\u00a0is to find transport to\u00a0Battor, which is far and costly. Sometimes, delays put lives at risk,\u201d she said.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Komla\u00a0Amedzro, a resident, noted that the elderly suffered the most. \u201cSome of our old people cannot make the journey. Minor sicknesses become serious because there is no clinic here, \u201d\u00a0he said.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Community leaders explained that the CHPS compound, once completed, would provide basic healthcare services such as antenatal care, child welfare services, first aid, and treatment of common illnesses.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Kofi Torgbenu, a community member, said the initiative\u00a0demonstrated\u00a0the community\u2019s commitment to improving its own welfare.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe contributed\u00a0labour\u00a0and resources to start this project because healthcare is a necessity, not a luxury.
