Musk\u00a0responded<\/a>, \u201cHave you seen their car?\u201d before adding, \u201cI don\u2019t think they have a great product\u2026I don\u2019t think it\u2019s particularly attractive; the technology is not very strong, and BYD as a company has some pretty severe problems in their home turf in China.\u201d The Tesla CEO then said BYD\u2019s primary focus should be ensuring they don\u2019t die in China. The billionaire changed his tone in 2021 while addressing the World New Energy Vehicle Congress in Hainan, China. \u201cI have a great deal of respect for the many Chinese automakers for driving these (EV) technologies,\u201d Musk said at the time.
