{"id":17598,"date":"2026-01-11T19:58:07","date_gmt":"2026-01-11T19:58:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/africa\/17598\/"},"modified":"2026-01-11T19:58:07","modified_gmt":"2026-01-11T19:58:07","slug":"fg-orders-concrete-shoulders-and-direct-engineers-to-supervise-federal-projects","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/africa\/17598\/","title":{"rendered":"FG Orders Concrete Shoulders and Direct Engineers to Supervise Federal Projects"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>                <img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aiir-c-news-figure__image\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/africa\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/6963f70d42605.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><\/p>\n<p class=\"aiir-c-news-article__abstract\">\n            The Minister of Works, Dave Umahi, has issued a bold directive to overhaul federal road construction standards nationwide, mandating concrete shoulders and cement-paved stone bases to boost durability and cut recurring repairs.\n        <\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify\">The announcement came during Umahi\u2019s inspection of key Lagos infrastructure, where he also commissioned a \u20a640 billion state-of-the-art CCTV surveillance centre on the Third Mainland Bridge \u2014 Nigeria\u2019s busiest \u2014 aimed at strengthening security and revolutionizing traffic management.<\/p>\n<p data-end=\"972\" data-start=\"732\" style=\"text-align:justify\">\u201cThis facility will monitor traffic in real time, enforce speed limits, and ensure quick police response without disrupting flow,\u201d Umahi said. <\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify\">\u201cOffenders will be stopped safely at designated lay-bys, easing congestion and improving safety.\u201d<\/p>\n<p data-end=\"1131\" data-start=\"974\" style=\"text-align:justify\">The minister revealed plans to extend pedestrian walkways, upgrade road markings, and beautify medians across the city, with completion targeted for January.<\/p>\n<p data-end=\"1366\" data-start=\"1133\" style=\"text-align:justify\">Umahi also gave updates on critical bridge repairs: phased reconstruction of the fire-damaged Ido Bridge is on track for completion by mid-year, while the structurally fragile Qatar Bridge faces urgent replacement within three years.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify\">Updates on major bridge projects included:<\/p>\n<p>  Ido Bridge: Damaged spans are being replaced with phased demolition and reconstruction, aiming for completion by mid-2026. The road level is being lowered to increase clearance for heavy vehicles.<br \/>\n  Qatar Bridge: Severely aged, the bridge will be replaced within three years.
