{"id":17819,"date":"2026-01-11T23:37:10","date_gmt":"2026-01-11T23:37:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/africa\/17819\/"},"modified":"2026-01-11T23:37:10","modified_gmt":"2026-01-11T23:37:10","slug":"violent-clashes-disrupt-church-service-in-gatundu-south-gachagua-blames-govt","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/africa\/17819\/","title":{"rendered":"Violent clashes disrupt church service in Gatundu South, Gachagua blames gov&#8217;t"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\u00a0A church service attended by Democratic Party of Kenya (DCP) leader Rigathi Gachagua was disrupted on Sunday by violent clashes between rival youth groups outside the African Independent Pentecostal Church of Africa (AIPCA) in Kiamworia, Gatundu South.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"587\" data-end=\"921\">Eyewitnesses said the groups, armed with batons, engaged in a standoff outside the church, prompting police to deploy teargas to disperse the youths. <\/p>\n<p data-start=\"587\" data-end=\"921\">The confrontation also disrupted traffic along the Kiamworia-Gatundu South road and resulted in a minibus being vandalized. The driver was accused of ferrying the youths to the area.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"923\" data-end=\"1077\">Several members of the congregation suffered teargas inhalation as the fumes spread inside the church, with worshippers describing the scene as chaotic.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1079\" data-end=\"1227\">&#8220;Tumejipata tumetupiwa teargas ndani ya kanisa,&#8221; said Ruth Wanjiku, a church member. Salome Wachuka added, &#8220;Tumeletewa hadi goons kwa kanisa.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1229\" data-end=\"1412\">Addressing the incident, Gachagua accused the government of allowing the disruption, alleging that state authorities sent \u201cgoons\u201d to the church while leaving police to protect them.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1414\" data-end=\"1505\">&#8220;Mbona unatuma goons kanisani?
