{"id":17903,"date":"2026-01-12T00:49:21","date_gmt":"2026-01-12T00:49:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/africa\/17903\/"},"modified":"2026-01-12T00:49:21","modified_gmt":"2026-01-12T00:49:21","slug":"tragedy-as-3-family-members-die-in-house-fire-in-kericho","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/africa\/17903\/","title":{"rendered":"Tragedy as 3 family members die in house fire in Kericho"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/africa\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/78aadc2d-6e15-4e09-b2aa-3974d30e8bd3.jpg\" class=\"ui-draggable ui-draggable-handle\" style=\"max-width: 100%; width: 100%;\"\/>Fire incident<\/p>\n<p>Police&#13;<br \/>\nare investigating an incident where three family&#13;<br \/>\nmembers were killed in a fire in Kapnandet village, Belgut Constituency,&#13;<br \/>\nKericho County.<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\nAccording to the villagers, the trio- an&#13;<br \/>\n80-year-old woman, her 52-year-old daughter and their 19-year-old house help&#13;<br \/>\nwere sleeping in their bedrooms when the incident happened on Friday.<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\nVillagers pointed out that the family members&#13;<br \/>\nwere awoken by a loud blast from a cooking gas which emanated from the kitchen&#13;<br \/>\nof the four-bedroomed bungalow and when they went to check, they discovered&#13;<br \/>\nthat the house had been engulfed by the fire.<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\nThey raised an alarm, which attracted the&#13;<br \/>\nattention of the other villagers and the public who rushed to the&#13;<br \/>\nscene and attempted to put out the inferno.<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\nHowever, they were overwhelmed by the intensity&#13;<br \/>\nof the fire, which spread rapidly and, within a short time, engulfed the entire&#13;<br \/>\nhouse.<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\nThe fire brigade from the county government of&#13;<br \/>\nKericho later arrived at the scene and assisted in extinguishing the fire.<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\nThe bodies were moved to the mortuary pending an&#13;<br \/>\nautopsy and other procedures.&#13;<br \/>\nPolice said they want to establish the cause of&#13;<br \/>\nthe fire as part of the probe into the incident.<\/p>\n<p>Elsewhere, a 66-year-old was found murdered in his bed after&#13;<br \/>\nsuspected murder in a village in Samburu, Kwale County.<\/p>\n<p>Police said Nzole Mumba Chileta was found dead in&#13;<br \/>\nhis house after he had been attacked by unknown assailants. The motive was not&#13;<br \/>\nimmediately known.<\/p>\n<p>The deceased lived alone.\u00a0The body lay in a pool of blood with injuries on&#13;<br \/>\nhis throat, head, shoulder and ribs.<\/p>\n<p>The body was moved to the mortuary pending an&#13;<br \/>\nautopsy.\u00a0In Bahati, Nakuru County, a guard was killed in a&#13;<br \/>\nrobbery on a farm, police said.<\/p>\n<p>The murder happened at Morop Farm.\u00a0A gang raided the farm and stole a transformer.<\/p>\n<p>One Paul Ekidor, 57 who was a guard at the farm&#13;<br \/>\nwas killed.\u00a0He was found lying in a pool of blood with the&#13;<br \/>\nlegs and hands tied with a nylon rope.<\/p>\n<p>Two other guards were injured in the attack and&#13;<br \/>\ntaken to hospital in a serious condition.<\/p>\n<p>The body was moved to the mortuary pending an&#13;<br \/>\nautopsy, police said.
