President William Ruto has affirmed that no one will succeed
\nin creating a rift between him and the people of the Mt Kenya region.<\/p>\n

Speaking on Sunday during a church service at ACK St Paul\u2019s
\nChurch Kariki in Othaya, Nyeri County, Ruto, without mentioning names, said
\nthere are individuals determined to drive a wedge between him and the region
\nthat overwhelmingly supported him in the 2022 General Election.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere are people who think they can create a rift between
\nme and people of Mt Kenya,\u201d he stated, adding, \u201cThey cannot destroy what the
\nregion and I have built together. That is impossible.\u201d<\/p>\n

The President urged those allegedly working to divide him
\nfrom the people to look elsewhere, saying he will continue walking with the
\nresidents of the Mountain region.<\/p>\n

\u201cI am the President of Kenya because of your votes. The
\ngovernment I am running today is because of your votes. You gave me the
\nopportunity to serve you,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Ruto highlighted that the region has tasked him with
\naddressing key issues, including education, agriculture, businesses,
\ninfrastructure, and power.<\/p>\n

\u201cI know the test is in 2027 and everybody will be assessed
\naccording to the work they have done,\u201d he stated. <\/p>\n

He also stressed that voters in Nyeri judge leaders based on
\nperformance and plans, not appearances.<\/p>\n

\u201cDo people in Nyeri elect leaders based on their looks? You
\nelect people on the work they have done and their plan. We will meet in 2027
\nwith those who like insulting other leaders,\u201d Ruto said.<\/p>\n

Though he did not mention anyone by name, Ruto appeared to
\nbe taking a subtle jab at former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua,
\nhighlighting the strained relationship between the two leaders.<\/p>\n

Once Ruto\u2019s chief lieutenant in the Mt Kenya region,
\nGachagua has become a vocal critic, accusing the President of sidelining the
\nregion and its leaders.<\/p>\n

The fallout between Ruto and Gachagua has evolved from a
\nclose political partnership into open rivalry.<\/p>\n

Gachagua has repeatedly asserted that Ruto has lost the
\nsupport of the Mt Kenya region, alleging that voters feel betrayed over
\ngovernment appointments, development priorities, and key decision-making.<\/p>\n

He argues that some leaders allied to Ruto no longer speak
\nfor the people but for their political survival, portraying himself as the true
\nvoice of the region.<\/p>\n

The church service brought together national and regional
\nleaders, including Nyeri Governor Mutahi Kahiga, Agriculture and Livestock
\nDevelopment Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe, Nyeri Senator Wahome Wamatinga, and
\nNyeri Woman Representative Rahab Mukami.<\/p>\n

Ruto underscored his efforts to consolidate support in the
