Big Ada, Jan. 11, GNA-Asafoatsengua\u00a0Buertey\u00a0Okumko\u00a0Obuampong\u00a0IV, Senior Warlord of the Royal\u00a0Adibiawer\u00a0Clan of Ada, has expressed concern over what he described as a decline in academic performance among students in the Ada Traditional Area.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Asafoatsengua\u00a0Obuampong\u00a0attributed the situation\u00a0largely to\u00a0growing parental negligence and inadequate supervision of children in some communities.\u00a0<\/p>\n
In an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA), he noted that many students no longer slept at home, while others engaged in activities such as sand winning and the use of hard drugs, which he said contributed to indiscipline and poor academic outcomes.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cThese behaviours are among the major causes of the abysmal performance we are witnessing among schoolchildren,\u201d he\u00a0stated.\u00a0<\/p>\n
He urged parents to take urgent steps to\u00a0provide\u00a0proper guidance for their wards and instil discipline, stressing that education\u00a0remained\u00a0a critical foundation for securing a better future.\u00a0<\/p>\n
The\u00a0Asafoatsengua\u00a0warned that without renewed commitment to education, the future development of Ada could be seriously undermined, noting that sustainable progress depended\u00a0largely on\u00a0a well-educated population.\u00a0<\/p>\n
He called on parents, teachers, and traditional authorities to collaborate and adopt effective strategies to strengthen discipline and academic standards within schools.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cWhen you are no more as a parent, your children must be able to carry on your legacy, but if you fail to raise them well, their future will be destroyed,\u201d he asserted.\u00a0<\/p>\n
He appealed to the government to intervene with early policies and targeted programmes to address the challenges confronting education in the Ada Traditional Area and across the country.\u00a0<\/p>\n
