{"id":1848,"date":"2026-01-04T03:36:07","date_gmt":"2026-01-04T03:36:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/africa\/1848\/"},"modified":"2026-01-04T03:36:07","modified_gmt":"2026-01-04T03:36:07","slug":"fubara-is-apc-leader-in-rivers-says-party-national-chairman-channels-television","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/africa\/1848\/","title":{"rendered":"Fubara Is APC Leader In Rivers, Says Party National Chairman \u2022 Channels Television"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Nentawe Yilwatda, has clarified that the Governor of Rivers, Siminalayi Fubara, is the leader of the party in the state.<\/p>\n<p>Yilwatda made the clarification on Friday night while speaking on Channels Television\u2019s news and current affairs programme, Hard Copy.<\/p>\n<p>According to the APC National Chairman, the position is clearly provided for in the APC Constitution, which recognizes governors of party-controlled states as leaders of the party in their respective states without exception.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn all the states, we have the state governors that lead the party in their respective states,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>READ ALSO: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.channelstv.com\/2026\/01\/02\/orji-uzor-kalu-pledges-to-deliver-abia-to-apc-in-2027\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Orji Uzor Kalu Pledges To Deliver Abia To APC In 2027<\/a><\/p>\n<p>He, however, emphasized that governors are encouraged to carry all stakeholders along, a commitment Governor Fubara has already made and is already demonstrating in Rivers State.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAt the same time, we tell the governors who have leaders at the national level to respect inclusion,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>On the issue of Governor Fubara\u2019s second-term bid, Yilwatda stated that the APC would support and work for the governor\u2019s re-election if he emerges as the party\u2019s candidate through the primary process, a process that can only be determined by duly accredited party delegates.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf Siminalayi emerges as the candidate of the APC in Rivers State, I will stand by him,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>His statement comes amid speculations about who the leader of the party is in Rivers State.<\/p>\n<p>Fubara joined the APC in December, saying he was leaving the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to support President Bola Tinubu.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe reason why we are still standing is because of that place, and the truth is, without Mr President, there wouldn\u2019t be any His Excellency Siminalayi Fubara; it would have been the former governor.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo, we have every reason because the truth, let nobody be fooled in this state, we have the people, we have the supporters. Our only thank-you to Mr President is to support him, and we cannot support the President in isolation;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe cannot support the President if we don\u2019t fully identify with him, not backyard support. So, we have taken that decision today since we have gotten the pass.
