Accra, Jan. 03, GNA\u00a0\u2013\u00a0The Class of 1981 of Bekwai SDA Basic School has marked a historic milestone, celebrating 60 years of life, friendship and shared heritage at a grand dinner and commemoration event held on Sunday, December 28, 2025.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
Held\u00a0on\u00a0the theme \u201cTogether at 60,\u201d the event brought together about 35 former classmates from across Ghana and the diaspora, including the United States and the United Kingdom, making the celebration a rare and emotionally significant reunion of primary school peers who have\u00a0maintained\u00a0lifelong bonds.\u00a0<\/p>\n
The highlight of the celebration was a special honour bestowed on the class\u2019s former teacher, Mr. J. K. Mensah, whose lasting influence on the lives of his pupils was acknowledged through a moving citation.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
The tribute drew applause and emotion from attendees, with some teachers present noting that the gesture reaffirmed the enduring impact of dedicated teaching across generations.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Adding colour and nostalgia to the programme, members recreated scenes from their basic school days through a match past, mock assembly and classroom-style activities, sparking laughter and admiration from guests and community members.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
The event also featured a solemn remembrance of departed classmates and teachers, led by the class choir, as well as the presentation of gifts to members whose parents are still alive, in recognition of parental sacrifice and support.\u00a0<\/p>\n
The celebration was graced by Rt. Hon. Joseph Osei Owusu,\u00a0a\u00a0former Member of Parliament\u00a0for the area\u00a0and former Deputy Speaker of Parliament, alongside other distinguished personalities from Bekwai.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
Their presence underscored the significance of the occasion, which many described as one of the most remarkable reunions in the town\u2019s history.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Members of the class noted that the association\u00a0was\u00a0unique, as it\u00a0was\u00a0uncommon for primary school classmates to remain active and united decades after school.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Officially formed in 2019, the group\u00a0emerged\u00a0from deliberate efforts to trace and reconnect with old classmates, beginning with a WhatsApp platform that has\u00a0since evolved into\u00a0a strong support\u00a0network.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Beyond social interaction, the Class of 1981 has consistently provided mutual support to its members in times of need, a show of solidarity that impressed guests and residents alike.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
Many described the celebration as\u00a0inspiring\u00a0and a powerful example of unity rooted in childhood friendships.\u00a0<\/p>\n
