\nSalaries and Remuneration Commission (SRC), Ali Abdullahi Surraw, was on Monday
\nsworn into office.<\/p>\n
The move marked a significant leadership transition at the constitutional
\ncommission mandated with setting and reviewing salaries for state and public
\nofficers.<\/p>\n
Chief Justice Martha Koome presided over the
\nceremony, congratulating Surraw for emerging as the top candidate in what she
\ndescribed as a competitive and merit-based recruitment process.<\/p>\n
She said his entry into office comes at a pivotal moment for the Commission
\nand the country.<\/p>\n
Koome underscored the SRC\u2019s critical role in
\nbalancing the public sector\u2019s quest for fair and equitable remuneration with
\nthe constitutional principle of fiscal sustainability.<\/p>\n
She noted that this delicate equilibrium is essential for the long-term

She highlighted the Judiciary\u2019s close working
\nrelationship with the SRC, describing it as crucial to efforts aimed at
\nattracting and retaining highly skilled professionals within the Judicial
\nService.<\/p>\n
The CJ referenced the Judiciary\u2019s ongoing recruitment drive, noting that the
\nJudicial Service Commission (JSC) began interviews earlier in the day for
\npositions in the Court of Appeal.<\/p>\n
The process will extend to the High Court, the Environment and Land Court, and
\nthe Kadhis\u2019 Courts.<\/p>\n
Koome said the recruitment of additional
\njudges and the recent appointment of 100 Resident Magistrates forms part of a
\nbroader institutional strengthening initiative designed to improve service
\ndelivery, reduce case backlogs, and enhance access to justice.<\/p>\n
She emphasised that such institutional
\nstrengthening requires continued collaboration between the SRC and service
\ncommissions, noting that both bodies are central to ensuring a professional,
\nmotivated, and people-centred public service.<\/p>\n

Surraw, who now takes up leadership of the

The Chief Justice urged him to adhere strictly
\nto the oath of office, reminding him that the position demands diligence,
