{"id":19260,"date":"2026-01-12T17:50:16","date_gmt":"2026-01-12T17:50:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/africa\/19260\/"},"modified":"2026-01-12T17:50:16","modified_gmt":"2026-01-12T17:50:16","slug":"man-arrested-for-raping-95-year-old-woman-in-limpopo","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/africa\/19260\/","title":{"rendered":"Man arrested for raping 95-year-old woman in Limpopo"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\n\t\tThe suspect allegedly assaulted the elderly woman and gagged her.\n\t<\/p>\n<p>A 30-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly raping a 95-year-old woman in Limpopo.<\/p>\n<p>The sexual crime, which has shocked the community, took place in Vleeisboom village, in Hlogotlou policing area, Sekhukhune District, on Friday night, 09 January 2026.<\/p>\n<p>It is alleged that on the evening in question, at approximately 10pm, the elderly victim was busy preparing food for herself at her home when she was surprised by the suspect inside her house.<\/p>\n<p>Rape<\/p>\n<p>Police spokesperson Brigadier Hlulani Mashaba said the suspect, who was known to the elderly woman, was armed with a knife.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe suspect allegedly assaulted the elderly woman, gagged her, and proceeded to rape her before fleeing the scene.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA case of rape was immediately opened at Hlogotlou Police Station, and investigations commenced. I commend the investigating team for their swift action in apprehending the suspect.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe will ensure that this case receives the attention it deserves as it proceeds through the criminal justice system.\u201d Said Scheepers.<\/p>\n<p>Court<\/p>\n<p>The suspect is expected to appear before the Nebo Magistrate\u2019s Court on Monday, 12 January 2026, facing a charge of rape.<\/p>\n<p>Police investigations are continuing.<\/p>\n<p>Rapist conviction<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.citizen.co.za\/news\/south-africa\/courts\/delft-man-appeal-denied-life-sentence-child-rape\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">a man in his 40s, serving a life sentence for repeatedly raping a young girl, failed to overturn his conviction and sentence<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The Western Cape High Court in Cape Town dismissed Songezo Wulana\u2019s appeal, confirming both the guilty verdict and the life imprisonment imposed by the Parow Regional Court.<\/p>\n<p>Wulana, from Delft in Cape Town, was convicted in October 2024 following a trial in which he denied the charges.<\/p>\n<p>Evidence presented in court showed that he raped the victim on multiple occasions in 2022. <\/p>\n<p>ALSO READ: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.citizen.co.za\/news\/south-africa\/courts\/self-proclaimed-prophet-jailed-for-murder-of-mother-and-daughter\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Self-proclaimed prophet jailed for murder of mother and daughter<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"The suspect allegedly assaulted the elderly woman and gagged her.
