Newly crowned World Cross-Country champion Agnes Jebet
\nNg\u2019etich has revealed the immense pressure she felt to deliver for Kenya after
\nreigning champion Beatrice Chebet withdrew from the senior women\u2019s race.<\/p>\n

Chebet, a double defending world champion, is expecting her
\nfirst child and opted out of the race, shifting Kenya\u2019s title hopes to
\nNg\u2019etich. Stepping up, the 24-year-old added to her two team golds and
\nindividual bronze from the previous two World Championships.<\/p>\n

Ng\u2019etich, who finished fifth in Belgrade in 2024, admitted
\nshe had to give her all to maintain Kenya\u2019s dominance.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen Beatrice withdrew the weight to bring the title to
\nKenya fell on my shoulders. I was like if I want the title to remain in Kenya I
\nhave to fight for it,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

At Florida\u2019s Apalachee Regional Park in Tallahassee, USA,
\nNg\u2019etich, the reigning 10 km world record holder, dominated the course on
\nSaturday, finishing in 31:28 to claim her first individual senior world title. <\/p>\n

She broke away from the pack at the third kilometer, leading
\nUganda\u2019s Joy Cheptoyek by six seconds, and extended the gap to 30 seconds by
\nthe 8km mark. <\/p>\n

Her winning margin of 42 seconds is the second-largest in
\nthe history of any World Cross-Country Championship.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m so happy to win this title. This is my first time to
\nwin an individual title and I\u2019m so elated. It comes from the hard work that I
\nhave put in place,\u201d Ng\u2019etich said in a post-race interview.<\/p>\n

\u201cI never gave up after failing to be on the podium on a
\nnumber of occasions and finally I emerged victorious today. This is a special
\nmoment for me.\u201d<\/p>\n

Although her time of 31:28 was one second slower than her
\ntiming in Belgrade in 2024, Ng\u2019etich described the Tallahassee course as one of
\nthe toughest she has ever faced, noting the challenge of climbing barriers and
\nnavigating the technical terrain.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe course was tough and climbing those barriers was so
\ndifficult but I gave my best. I felt the race was slow after the first lap.\u201d <\/p>\n

Her triumph also marks Kenya\u2019s 10th consecutive senior
\nwomen\u2019s title at the World Cross-Country Championships.<\/p>\n

With the road season now complete, Ng\u2019etich will turn her
\nfocus to the track, targeting the upcoming Diamond League meetings as she
