The mayor has promised to do the temporary bridge, but still nothing is happening,” Skosana said.

According to the residents, during his visit, the mayor acknowledged the hardships faced by residents, many of whom have been cut off from essential services and schools due to damaged roads and unsafe crossings.

“It’s been months now, and there’s no progress. The situation remains very bad for both pedestrians and motorists. They promised that in about a week after their visit, they will be working on it, but the situation is very bad now as it is still raining,” he added.

Attempts were made to contact the Emalahleni Local Municipality’s spokesperson, Lebo Mofokeng, to comment on the mayor’s visit and the project’s progress; however, Mofokeng has yet to comment.

The community is still calling on the municipality to honour its pledge and deliver urgent intervention, as they wish to see their children safely make it to school on the first day of school this year.

Breaking news at your fingertips … Follow WITBANK NEWS on our website, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram or TikTok

Chat to us: [email protected]

At Caxton, we employ humans to generate daily fresh news, not AI intervention.
