{"id":19584,"date":"2026-01-12T21:40:10","date_gmt":"2026-01-12T21:40:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/africa\/19584\/"},"modified":"2026-01-12T21:40:10","modified_gmt":"2026-01-12T21:40:10","slug":"ipoa-confirms-arrest-of-2-police-officers-after-fatal-shooting-in-mukuru-kwa-njenga","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/africa\/19584\/","title":{"rendered":"IPOA Confirms Arrest of 2 Police Officers After Fatal Shooting in Mukuru Kwa Njenga"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) has confirmed the arrest and detention of two police officers following the fatal shooting of a 20-year-old Kenyan in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kenyans.co.ke\/news\/71907-general-badi-takes-action-after-police-officers-kill-nairobi-residents\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Mukuru kwa Njenga in Embakasi, Nairobi<\/a>, on January 11, 2026.<\/p>\n<p>The two officers were arraigned at the Milimani Law Courts on Monday, January 12, where a judge granted IPOA\u2019s request to detain them for 14 days to allow completion of investigations into the incident.<\/p>\n<p>According to IPOA, preliminary findings indicate that the shooting occurred at approximately 6:10 a.m. in Imara Daima during an encounter involving the deceased, his colleagues, and police officers.<\/p>\n<p>IPOA stated that the deceased and two other individuals were delivering a motor vehicle to a client when they were involved in a traffic altercation with a matatu along the route.<\/p>\n<p>IPOA chairperson Isaack Hassan during the interview for the position of Judge of the Court of Appeal in Nairobi on January 12, 2026.<\/p>\n<p>Photo<\/p>\n<p> Judicial Service Commission Kenya (JSC)<\/p>\n<p>After the altercation, the matatu driver is said to have summoned fellow operators, forcing the three to escape from the scene and seek refuge in a safer area.<\/p>\n<p>The vehicle was reportedly parked near Mukuru Community Centre School, after which the three occupants began walking back toward the original accident scene.<\/p>\n<p>On their way, the three men were intercepted by two police officers who allegedly ordered them to lie on the ground.<\/p>\n<p>During the incident, one of the officers allegedly opened fire, hitting the deceased in the head. The victim succumbed to the injuries on the spot due to their severity.<\/p>\n<p>In a statement, Ahmed Issack Hassan said he supervised a post-mortem carried out on January 11, which concluded that the deceased died from a single penetrating gunshot wound to the head.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The two police officers involved were arrested and arraigned before the Milimani Law Courts this morning.
