It’s understood that the altercation occurred following an alleged bumper bash incident.<\/p>\n

MasterDrive chief executive officer Eugene Herbert\u2019s company provides defensive driving training that encourages a shift in how drivers engage with other road users.<\/p>\n

He said the road rage problem was less about isolated incidents and more about pressure, stress, fatigue, economic anxiety, distraction, and poor emotional regulation.<\/p>\n

Herbert said all these factors eventually boil over onto the road, where people feel anonymous and in control.<\/p>\n

“\u200aIt’s not necessarily the act itself. Maybe the bumper bashing was just what set it off, because it could have arisen as a result of the person having had a bad day at home, got out of bed on the wrong side. Maybe the boss fought with them or maybe they were served bad food at a restaurant.<\/p>\n

\u201cA small catalyst that actually results in somebody reacting in this way, and also bearing in mind that we may be a person, when we’re engaging with one another in person, but the moment we get behind the wheel of a vehicle, it kind of changes the personality. The vehicle tends to weaponise us, and therefore we will start doing things that we wouldn’t normally do.”<\/p>\n

He said a behavioural change needs to happen.<\/p>\n

“\u200aIf you are not following me closely, if you’re keeping a respectful distance behind my vehicle, it’s not likely I’m going to get upset with you. Don’t be a policeman on the road because that just provokes other people.”<\/p>\n
