{"id":19823,"date":"2026-01-13T01:19:29","date_gmt":"2026-01-13T01:19:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/africa\/19823\/"},"modified":"2026-01-13T01:19:29","modified_gmt":"2026-01-13T01:19:29","slug":"caf-to-investigate-post-match-violence-at-africa-cup-of-nations","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/africa\/19823\/","title":{"rendered":"CAF to investigate post-match violence at Africa Cup of Nations"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>CAF investigates post-match violence at Africa Cup of NationsAlgerian players pursued referee after loss to NigeriaAlgerian federation files complaint over referee&#8217;s performance<\/p>\n<p>TANGIERS, Morocco, Jan 12 (Reuters) &#8211; Violent confrontations at the conclusion of two of the Africa Cup of Nations quarter-finals at the weekend are to be investigated with possible sanctions to be imposed, the Confederation of African Football said.<\/p>\n<p>Opposing players jostled with each other after Morocco beat Cameroon in Rabat on Friday and when Nigeria overcame Algeria in Agadir on Saturday.<\/p>\n<p data-testid=\"promo-box\" class=\"text-module__text__0GDob text-module__dark-grey__UFC18 text-module__regular__qJJtA text-module__small__sph8i body-module__base__o--Cl body-module__small_body__gOmDf article-body-module__promo-box__hVl8h\"> Sign up  <a data-testid=\"Link\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer-when-downgrade\" href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/sports\/soccer\/caf-investigate-post-match-violence-africa-cup-nations-2026-01-12\/undefined?location=article-paragraph&amp;redirectUrl=%2Fsports%2Fsoccer%2Fcaf-investigate-post-match-violence-africa-cup-nations-2026-01-12%2F\" class=\"text-module__text__0GDob text-module__inherit-color__PhuPF text-module__inherit-font__1P1hv text-module__inherit-size__EyiQW link-module__link__INqxZ link-module__underline_default__-okuC\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">here.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Video on social media showed the referee being pursued down the tunnel by Algerian players after their 2-0 defeat, and altercations among journalists from the two countries in the mixed zone, an area where reporters can interview players after the match.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCAF has collected recent match reports and video evidence indicating potentially unacceptable behaviour from some players and officials and has opened an investigation,\u201d a statement said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCAF has referred the matters to the Disciplinary Board for investigation and has called for appropriate action to be taken if the identified persons were to be found guilty of any wrongdoing.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCAF strongly condemns any inappropriate behaviour which occurs during matches, especially those targeting the refereeing team or match organisers.
