IN A horrific case of incestuous sexual abuse, a woman has been sentenced to life for the rape of her brother, who was eight years old at the time.\u00a0<\/p>\n
The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) announced the sentencing of life and five years\u2019 imprisonment handed down to a 28-year-old woman by the Madadeni Regional Court.\u00a0<\/p>\n
The woman from Osizweni in KwaZulu-Natal pleaded guilty in terms of Section 112 of the Criminal Procedure Act 51 of 1977, to raping and showing pornography to her little brother.\u00a0<\/p>\n
According to the NPA, from 2022 to 2024, while their mother was not at home, the accused raped the boy on many occasions.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Following the incidents, she threatened him not to tell anyone what she had done.<\/p>\n
The offences came to light in 2024 after the boy attended a presentation at school, where learners were told to report anyone who touches their private parts.\u00a0<\/p>\n
This presentation encouraged him to report the matter to his mother. The police were informed, and the accused was subsequently arrested.<\/p>\n
In aggravation of sentence, Prosecutor Zama Zikalala emphasised that the accused had abused a position of trust as the victim\u2019s older sister. The victim\u2019s mother also testified about the behavioural impact the abuse has had on her son. T<\/p>\n
The court sentenced the accused to life imprisonment for rape and five years\u2019 imprisonment for exposing a minor to pornographic material.\u00a0<\/p>\n
