{"id":201724,"date":"2026-04-23T17:21:13","date_gmt":"2026-04-23T17:21:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/africa\/201724\/"},"modified":"2026-04-23T17:21:13","modified_gmt":"2026-04-23T17:21:13","slug":"spains-football-president-anxious-over-moroccos-world-cup-ambitions","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/africa\/201724\/","title":{"rendered":"Spain\u2019s Football President Anxious Over Morocco\u2019s World Cup Ambitions"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Rabat \u2013 Royal Spanish Football Federation President, Rafael Louzan, has expressed unease over Morocco\u2019s accelerating sports industry, especially its ambitions for the 2030 FIFA World Cup as a potential host of the tournament\u2019s final.<\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0 Moroccan momentum sparked frustration among Louzan and Spanish officials, who are publicly pushing the Spanish government to take the lead.<\/p>\n<p>Marca <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.marca.com\/futbol\/atletico\/2026\/04\/23\/louzan-avisa-marruecos-manda-espana-mandan-bastantes.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">said <\/a>Louzan made his remarks at The Forum, an event focused on the new challenges facing the football industry.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe is convinced that Spain will lead the competition, but he has urged the government to get involved as soon as possible, given Morocco\u2019s growing influence,\u201d Marca wrote.<\/p>\n<p>For Louzan, Spain is capable of doing everything, citing a plan for 20 host cities across the tournament.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The plan also includes 11 host cities in Spain, six in Morocco, and three in Portugal.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are going to lead that World Cup. Some stadiums are already well worked on and others are very modern,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>Commenting on Morocco\u2019s sports preparedness and the country\u2019s momentum in football, <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.moroccoworldnews.com\/2026\/04\/286657\/report-as-says-real-madrid-cut-ties-with-spanish-football-federation\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Louzan<\/a> urged his government to act without delay<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI say it because it is necessary. In Morocco, one person decides, while here many people do. This is indeed Spain\u2019s project, and it must lead it. From September onward, we must take the bull by the horns. Other structures must also be ready,\u201d he urged.<\/p>\n<p>Both countries are now in a tough sporting war over who will host the final. This is not the first time Louzan has made similar remarks.<\/p>\n<p>Last year, he declared that it would be \u201cinexplicable\u201d if the final were not in Spain, alleging that Spain accounts for 55% of the bid\u2019s weight.<\/p>\n<p>Morocco\u2019s Royal Football Federation (FRMF) President Fouzi Lekjaa, however, <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.moroccoworldnews.com\/2026\/01\/276514\/spanish-football-federation-president-claims-spain-will-lead-2030-world-cup-and-host-final\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">rejected<\/a> Spain\u2019s claims.<\/p>\n<p>He said that claims Spain secured the Bernabeu are speculative and that no decision has been made about the match locations.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThese choices will be discussed between the three host countries and FIFA,\u201dLekjaa maintained.<\/p>\n<p>Spain has also been under scrutiny in recent months amid chaos documented in stadiums following clashes between fans, private security, and Spain\u2019s police.<\/p>\n<p>On February 21, tensions erupted during\u00a0 Osasuna\u2019s win over Real Madrid at Pamplona\u2019s El Sadar stadium.<\/p>\n<p>Tensions rose after police started detaining some fans. Several supporters confronted them.
