{"id":20350,"date":"2026-01-13T08:40:08","date_gmt":"2026-01-13T08:40:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/africa\/20350\/"},"modified":"2026-01-13T08:40:08","modified_gmt":"2026-01-13T08:40:08","slug":"obi-faults-tinubus-uae-trip-says-nigeria-cant-be-governed-from-abroad","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/africa\/20350\/","title":{"rendered":"Obi faults Tinubu\u2019s UAE trip, says Nigeria can\u2019t be governed from abroad"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\u2022Nigeria targeting bankable climate projects, UAE investments, says Tuggar\n<\/p>\n<p>Nigeria is leveraging the 2026 <a href=\"https:\/\/guardian.ng\/news\/tinubu-resumes-work-receives-briefs-after-abu-dhabi-summit\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week (ADSW)<\/a> to translate climate commitments into tangible, fundable projects, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar, told newsmen, yesterday, in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates (UAE).\n<\/p>\n<p>But Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate in 2023, Peter Obi, criticised President Bola Tinubu\u2019s absence from the country for the ADSW, insisting that Nigeria cannot be governed from a foreign land.\n<\/p>\n<p>Tuggar explained that the <a href=\"https:\/\/guardian.ng\/news\/tinubu-arrives-in-uae-for-abu-dhabi-sustainability-week\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">ADSW<\/a>, coming after the recent global climate summit in Brazil, provided a crucial window to \u201cconcretise\u201d agreements reached at the Conference of Parties (COP), preventing them from ending as mere declarations.\n<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEvents like this allow countries to extract tangible projects, commitments and funding that may have been agreed at COP,\u201d the minister said, noting that Nigeria is focused on improving project preparation to unlock financing opportunities from participating governments and institutions.<\/p>\n<p>According to him, Nigeria\u2019s participation builds on engagements from last year\u2019s edition, where partnerships were initiated.\n<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are taking this further,\u201d Tuggar said, revealing that President Tinubu was scheduled to hold a bilateral meeting with the President of UAE, Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan.\n<\/p>\n<p> A major outcome expected from the bilateral meeting, he said, is the signing of the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA), which would provide stronger protection for investments from both countries. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cInvestors from UAE have indicated that they want the agreement signed to ensure their investments are protected.
